Grammar

Subjunctive with „să”

After verbs of wish, intention, opinion, use „să + verb conjugat”. E.g. „Vreau să merg” = I want to go.

  • Vreau să învăț româna.
  • Trebuie să plec.
  • Pot să te ajut?
  • Mi-ar plăcea să vin.

„Mi se pare” construction

Common for opinions. Literally „it seems to me”. The pronoun changes: îmi (mine), îți, îi, ne, vă, le.

  • Îmi place filmul. — I like the film.
  • Îți pare rău? — Are you sorry?
  • Ne place orașul. — We like the city.

Sara
Ce părere ai despre filmul de aseară?
What did you think of last night's film?
Cristian
Cred că a fost interesant, dar prea lung.
I think it was interesting, but too long.
Sara
Sunt de acord. Mi s-a părut puțin plictisitor pe la mijloc.
I agree. It seemed a bit boring around the middle.
Cristian
Pe de altă parte, actorii au fost excelenți.
On the other hand, the actors were excellent.
